Size: appx 3.5 inch
this critter was resting on our back patio where we have several potted vegetable plants...Our elev. is 3,ooo ft. and live in an arid area adjacent to 2 mtn ranges. Notice the tail is two toned, black and white.

Stephanidae
ok for Schlettererius cinctipes (Cresson). Known hosts are woodboring Hymenoptera (Siricidae).

Should be a bit better.

Suspect
I suspect this is Schlettererius cinctipes. If so, it would be a new species for Bug Guide. I have sent an email to Dr. Smith. For the average viewer, it would be beneficial if the image were more favorably cropped.
