Leaf Beetle - Diabrotica barberi

Leaf Beetle - Diabrotica barberi
Pheasant Branch Conservancy, Middleton, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
July 29, 2006
I'm not sure what I have here. The shape makes me think it's something in the weevil family or related, but I don't see anything quite the same color. Is it an immature? I'm at a loss. Any help would be welcome.

Diabrotica barberi Smith & Lawrence -- det.S.M. Clark
Moved from Diabrotica.

Diabrotica sp.
This is a species in the genus Diabrotica from the subfamily Galerucinae

I did a google search on you
and I see that you are quite active regarding beetles. It would be interesting for bugguide users to be able to click on your name and read a short biography about you, especially since very few would have heard of you previously.

Would you consider taking a few moments to write a short biography on your personal profile page? Just click on your name to get there.

Bio
Done. I also added my home page. Thx.

Photos
Callen, I enjoyed looking at the photos on your homepage. Lots of great natural history stuff as well as people, still lifes, and more. Keep up the good work.

Ditto here
Nice work!

Ha!
Thanks Callen. I was actually replying to Rob's comment, hoping he would create a bio -- something I wish every user would do and especially those with impressive credentials and experience. Way more often than not, they offer zip for info about themselves while tossing out all sorts of identities as if every other user should know who and how credentialed they are. In these cases, unless I find something noteworthy on them in a google search or can find corroborating images based on their ID pronouncement, I have no reason to trust it and move the image to a guide page. In Rob's case, it appeared to me, based on just a bit of Web research, that he lives in the Netherlands but is well traveled in his entomological pursuits. I'm sure he has a fascinating story to tell about himself and I hope he will.

That said, I will now read *your* bio :-)

Moved
to genus page.

Diabrotica
Thanks for helping pinpoint this for me.

Leaf Beetle
Family Chrysomelidae. It's not immature, just light colored.
