Tiny Wasp - Crabro

Tiny Wasp - Crabro
Elderberry Park, Anchorage, Municipality of Anchorage County, Alaska, USA
June 28, 2012
Not the best images, as I wasn't prepared to take pictures of insects, but as it landed and stayed on the tripod here, I had to do the best I could with what I had. Are these photos good enough for an ID?

Very interesting!
This should be a species of Crabro, though I am not aware of any North American species that lacks yellow or white markings. Fascinating!

Possibly C. hispidus?
Bohart 1976 describes a form where the females are all black. I have seen a few specimens, including one from Yukon, that have no distinct markings.

Oh!
That's cool! :) Not very many species in that genus, I see.

Species
Actually, there are quite a few. But they are not very common and often hard to identify.

I should have specified
... represented on BugGuide. :)

It seems a lot of Hymenopterans are challenging. Thanks for the attention to my little guy here!

Yep
Working on it, though. I added another species to the guide yesterday :)

Awesome!
Thanks for your work on here! :)
