Digger Wasp ID? - Sphex nudus

Digger Wasp ID? - Sphex nudus
Sherman, Sangamon County, Illinois, USA
July 29, 2006
Size: approx. 20mm
Observed in the process of covering a burrow in dry, sandy soil under my father's deck. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a shot showing the abdomen. It was found in the neighborhood of a number of Cicada Killer burrows.

Another Sphex
I have commented on three Sphex photos and I believe they are all different species. This is Sphex nudus or something very close to that species. Compare this image:

Sphex nudus
I believe the pattern of black and orange on the legs is distinctive for Sphex nudus, so I'll move it there.
