Water Mite - Limnesia

Water Mite - Limnesia
Pine Lake, Gravenhurst, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada
July 18, 2012
Size: 0.6 mm
In benthic mud sample. Limnesiidae?

"massive palps ... demonic looking eyes"
That's a description I'm sure to remember in the field! Moved from Water Mites.

Yup, Limnesia
The massive palps, attenuate hind tarsi (lacking claws at tips) and demonic looking eyes are characteristic of Limnesia.
