Cychrini - Scaphinotus bilobus

Cychrini - Scaphinotus bilobus
Mistissini, Nord-du-Québec County, Quebec, Canada
July 25, 2012
Size: 13 mm
Pitfall trapped in a partly harvested black spruce forest. Ground cover almost entirely made of mosses/sphagnales + Labrador tea. A nice specimen. I'm thinking Sphaeroderus canadensis.

Thank you Brad.

Moved from Ground Beetles.

yes
Sphaeroderus canadensis

Hard to tell from the photos
Hard to tell from the photos but I'm leaning toward Scaphinotus bilobus. How many setea on the edge of the pronotum?

5 setae.
5 setae.

That would make it a Scaphino
That would make it a Scaphinotus bilobus. Not a common beetle.

Sphaeroderus would have less punctures under the thorax, a wider "waist" and relatively shorter elytra.

I'll bet you're right Todd
Thanks for catching that, I forgot about these small Scaphinotus.
