Rhubarb weevil?
If it was fairly large, it is a Lixus sp., possibly the rhubarb weevil, though there are many species in the genus. The golden color is a powdery bloom that rubs off easily,so this is a fresh specimen!

 
Yes, it was a good sized rasc
Yes, it was a good sized rascal. And if I am not mistaken that is Rhubarb that he was on. We have it in our garden, and the big central leaf veins are that color of red. Thanks, Eric!
