These two genera can be difficult to tell apart; hopefully someone will take the plunge! Moving them out of Syrphidae to clarify the ID situation. I lean towards Ron's ID, personally, since female
Melanostoma
tend to have triangular markings, but can't be 100% sure.

Platycheirus
Melanostoma have front tibia cylindrical. This fly has front tibia expanded. Female Melanostoma have the orange markings reaching sides as a narrowing wing.
