Tiger beetle (C.oregona?) -
Cicindelidia sedecimpunctata
Ruby, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
June 21, 2005
Size: c.12mm
There were thousands of these on sandy shore of a lake. They eagerly pounced like vultures on a small dead fish.
Can anyone say if this is C.oregona for sure?

C. sedecimpunctata
Hi David, that's a
C. sedecimpunctata
you've got there. Wow, you really got in close to get such a high-resolution in-focus picture! Gorgeous photo. - Dan

Thanks for ID
Thanks Dan. I used a Canon SD10 which is a dinky little camera smaller than a cigarette pack, but if my insect lets me get really close, macro setting gives amazing results. These guys were very active and flighty on a warm day, so it took some patience!
