Lachesilla contraforcepeta - female

Lachesilla contraforcepeta - Female
Opelika, Lee County, Alabama, USA
July 23, 2012
Size: 2.1 mm
Caught on Juniperus virginiana. This individual has several characteristics useful in distinguishing it from L. forcepeta: 1) subgenital plate lacks the ovoid yellow patch, 2) two distinct rust brown bars between compound eye and antennal socket, 3) wings have a darker chocolate brown wash and 4) there are darker markings on the vertex behind ocellar field. It is interesting that L. forcepata and L. contrafocepeta are found in the same habitat and locality at the same time of year.
