Atala butterfly chrysalis - Eumaeus atala

Atala butterfly chrysalis - Eumaeus atala
Coconut Creek, Butterfly World, Broward County, Florida, USA
February 1, 2004
Size: 0.5 in.
Chrysalis of the Atala butterfly, attached to its host plant (the coontie).

Moved to guide
and I moved the date to the comments section, as otherwise it throws off our data map, since captive butterflies are often active at atypical times of the year.

Atala chrysalis
I should have mentioned: this one was a "freebie" and was not one of the captive butterflies. It was breeding in the wild outside of the exhibits.

I will admit that February seems early for breeding, but February is south Florida is pretty mild and we have otherwise found them in early Spring.

Thanks for clarification
I'll put that date back where it was.
