Triungulin type - Luperaltica senilis

Triungulin type - Luperaltica senilis
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 30, 2012
July 23, 2012: I was looking for aphids on goldenrods (didn't find any) but did find other insects. The coolest was a spider holding onto a Ripiphoridae (dead) and then, 2 plants over, another spider with a ripiphorid (dead). I also collected a couple of other insects.

July 30, 2012: I finally had a chance to look closer at the collected insects which had been refrigerated. One leaf beetle had a small larva attached to it's ventral thorax. The leaf beetle was dead but slowly, as it warmed, the larva moved but did not un-attach (till later). The larva reminds me of a ripiphorid. I added more leaf beetles to the containder.

July 31, 2012: The larva was still running around however it did stop, 'stand up and wave about' much like I have seen ripiphorid larvae do.

What might the larva be? And what larva might attach to a leaf beetle? I'm on my way to look for the same species of leaf beetle.
