Spider 1 - Araneus cavaticus

Spider 1 - Araneus cavaticus
North Chittenden, Vermont, USA
July 3, 2006
This spider is outside my kitchen window. It's quite large. Is this an egg sac? Can you tell me what kind it is? Thanks!

The
large orb weaver is a barn spider.
The smaller cobweb spider with an egg sac is probably a Theridion sp.

It appears to be
a Neoscona crucifera. I have read that sometimes the ones in the Northeast are very light in color (sometimes white).

Orb Weaver
Some sort of orb weaver... They are gentle shy spiders that spin beautiful webs.... yes, that is an egg sac....
