Giant Robber Fly - Diogmites neoternatus

Giant Robber Fly - Diogmites neoternatus
Auburn, Lee County, Alabama, USA
August 3, 2006
Size: 35-38 mm
This robber fly appears to be Promachus spp. Last year, I photographed a fly which was identified as male Promachus rufipes (http://bugguide.net/node/view/30584). This specimen, however, appears to have somewhat different coloration with respect to the scutellum and tibia. Perhaps this is a sex difference. Clarification appreciated.

Robber
This is a Diogmites and may be D. neoternatus once more.

Moved
to genus page. First Diogmites posted for the state.
