Antrodiaetus sp. - Antrodiaetus pacificus - male

Antrodiaetus sp. - Antrodiaetus pacificus - Male
Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
August 3, 2012
Size: ~14-15mm body length
Found under a board. I've been seeing these impressively built males wandering around for the past two to three weeks. They often seem to get caught and eaten by Parasteatoda tepidariorum, in whose webs I've noticed several.

This guy was pretty nice to photograph. He didn't go anywhere (except once), and even let me rearrange his legs a bit with a piece of grass a couple of times without a fuss.

From Rod Crawford's comment on this image, I gather a side view of the front leg is valuable in identifying males, so I've included one. I also got a dorsal view of it if necessary, and a close-up of just the tibia.

Very nice male A. pacificus!

Moved from Spiders.

A. pacificus
Thanks. I guess that might lend more support to the ID of the female I found earlier here, as they were actually found pretty near one another, both inside the yard.

Yes I agree
I find I usually have populations of one species in my yard.
