Robber
I was about to retire to some reading. But you made my evening with this one. This is not in any of the Asilini genera with those antenna and that elongate abdomen. I have no descriptions and this is one of the genera that has no drawings or images in the giant two volume Robber Flies of the World. I believe this has to be a Scleropogon and perhaps S. floridensis. One of only two eastern species in this twenty species western genus. Both are found in Florida and the other is S. subulatus. I will get Dr. Fisher to come have a look at this one.

Really nice shot and may be a new genus for the site, will have to look.

Thank you
very much for taking a look. I got images of this kind of late in the evening, so they are a little dark, after I read your comment last night, I went to see if it was where I left it, it was, so I will try for better images today.
