Lucerne moth - Nomophila nearctica

Lucerne moth - Nomophila nearctica
Forks, Clallam County, Washington, USA
August 7, 2012
I know there's a lot of images of this species, but this is mainly for data sake. I've got a TON of these all of the sudden in my pasture this year, west of Forks, and it seems I'm the only one throughout the Northwest. They are feeding on the new "invasion" of yellow flowering legumes and Polygonum spp.

Interesting
I captured three individuals on Aug. 5, 2012 here in SW Washington along Willapa Bay. Had never captured this species before in over six years and 400 moth species ago. Took me some time to find which species it was. Nice picture ... still using the FujiFilm?

In addition these were flying the night after we had a very unusual high one day coastal temperature of 93-95 deg.F on Saturday. Normally we are around 65-75F. Wonder also if that north traveling mass of hot air from Aug 3-7 from California may have something to do with the arrival of this species. Even with an east or off shore wind.

I'm not sure
If the heat affected it or not, all I know is, they appeared at the same time a great abundance of yellow flowering legume of some sort did in my pasture. They're still here to this day and quite varied. And yep, still using the Fujifilm. :)

Never found this one before either, in fact it was a guy from the UK who ID'ed it for me.
