Paonias myops? - Paonias myops

Paonias myops? - Paonias myops
Ocean County, New Jersey, USA
August 7, 2012
Size: Approximately 2-3 inches
A friend found this on a walk, took the photo, and I've been trying to ID it since. It appears to be a sphingidae, but despite persistent Googling, I couldn't figure out which. A much more knowledgeable friend than I said it could be a small-eyed sphinx moth, Paonias myops. Other photos he found showed quite a bit of variation in the splotch sizes and patterns. Thoughts are welcome!

Thanks!

Can't really help with the ID but...
...did you take this picture on August 7th? The way you wrote in the description make me think it was taken a while ago. I also removed the border.

Yes, it was taken yesterdayâ€
Yes, it was taken yesterday—by my friend, with Instagram. Hence the border. Sorry about that!
