Carpenter Bee - Xylocopa virginica - male

Carpenter Bee - Xylocopa virginica - Male
Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA
June 1, 2012
Size: 1 inch plus
I presume this is a common male Eastern Carpenter Bee, is that right? It hovered and hovered in one spot on our back deck (wood)
for days and days, so we finally decided to try a shot of it.

Meet your twin

The two images area different enough to know that you didn't steal it :) But the similarities are extraordinary.

Our Twins
How funny! Guess this shows that carpenter bee males generally "pose" alike. It approached but wasn't threatening because he never tried to bump into me. I've since read that these bees are both curious and near-sighted so that they come close to figure out what they're looking at. Don't know if that's really true but that's how he behaved.
