Alaska south to central California and east to Newfoundland and New England. Rocky Mountains to Arizona and New Mexico.
Also found in northern Europe.

Larval hosts include a variety of broad leaf plants and grasses.
Considered a pest species of common sunflower, Helianthus annuus L.
