Adult male with silk retreat? - Antrodiaetus pacificus - Male
Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
August 14, 2012
Size: ~15mm body length
I was outside doing some work when I noticed a small patch of silk by a dandelion leaf on the ground. It looked at first like an empty jumping spider's retreat or something of the sort. When I lifted up the leaf, though, I found it was more of a sheet, and this guy was nestled into the ground under it. See the other photos for details.

Yes, I agree with the ID. The "retreat" seems to be more like a very rudimentary attempt at a burrow.

Interesting. He was in an area that didn't have any thing substantial to hide under, so maybe that's what prompted him to make it.

That's cool, I don't remember if I've ever found one in a retreat before.
