David, I think you have solved the mystery...
MANY thanks and AWESOME detective work! I think some kind of published scientific note will be in order in the not-too-distant future? I now have five specimens. I will get more, including specimens from the second site found yesterday, hopefully possible later today if the weather permits. Maybe Mardon Erbland can do the same in Nfld? I also realize we have to eliminate the possibilty that this is not something closely related to Chorthippus brunneus and the specimens will help to do that. Please keep in touch!

The count is now seven specimens...
And I believe I saw many nymphs of the same species at the first site. I got another male and female today. These sure do look A LOT like all the photos I have been looking at of Chorthippus brunneus. But, who knows? I will go looking on-line tomorrow for something to nail (or exclude) C. brunneus. The New Brunswick Museum is very interested in the specimens and the Curator of Zoology is one of the folks who really helped nurture my newfound love of hoppers (along with you), so he very keen to get the specimens and is looking for some himself (as we speak) in other areas of New Brunswick. It is baffling that this has gone unnoticed... But, like Roesel's Bush Katydid, it may have been in our region for years before someone looked more closely at it. I must go check out the insect collections in the universities in our areas as soon as I can...
