These beetles are so fuzzy that the pronotal surface is normally obscured--it shows through in this Automontage picture only because of the stacking software used. Note the subcircular pronotal shape--different than ursina. This is a good species, despite being in synonymy with ursina in some lists. It is a very early species, flying in January & February in Mojave desert areas of CA, NV, and AZ.
