Mason Wasp - Ancistrocerus capra - female

Mason Wasp - Ancistrocerus capra - Female
Central Park, New York County, New York, USA
August 4, 2006
Tried to match to pics on file - closest ID I came up with is Vespidae: Eumeninae, Ancistrocerus antilope.
Hope this can be confirmed. Also, what is the difference between potter and mason wasps? Thanks for your time and info, Sandy

ID confirmed - Ancistrocerus antilope
Nice shots of an aging female of this fairly large, dark species.
The name Potter wasps should be used only for Eumenes and very closely related genera, like Delta or Zeta. Mason wasps is less accurate and can apply to any other Eumeninae. Ancistrocerus and Euodynerus are clearly Mason wasps, although THE Mason Wasp is Monobia quadridens in North America.

Thanks for ID, Richard
Moved to guide.

Thanks
