Any help identifying this caterpillar appreciated. There were several of these on sumac leaves.

Any chance that it was Ailanthus
rather than Sumac?

It was on Smooth Sumac, but the Guide Info page says it eats other deciduous shrubs, including sumac. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction. We agree that it's Ailanthus Webworm.
