Size: 1-2 inches
Taken at 11:00pm. We were walking outside and it came down on a web seemingly to investigate what we were doing.

. Yes, Neoscona crucifera looks right. (In FL I'm always hoping to see N. nautica, but it appears to be fairly rare or rarely seen anyway.)

It's brown? It looks black in the photo. If it was really brown it might be Neoscona crucifera but I can't be sure from these photos. With some of the orb weavers a shot of the underside can be helpful.

Hm, on my screen it looks brown. It might be the lighting. N. crucifera looks reasonable to me too.

It was difficult to get a pic
It was difficult to get a picture because it was so late, there's no lights in this area so I was relying on flash to get a picture. The University of Florida has a description that makes me feel this is definitely the right one, thanks!
