Unknown Beetle -
Lytta deserticola
Apple Valley, Washington County, Utah, USA

Size: 22 mm
Please let me know anything you can about this beetle and what they eat. Will they damage any of my trees or plants? What can I use to stop them.

Moved tentatively & cropped for the guide; Lytta deserticola
should not be a problem -- not a pest anyway; how many do you see on a single tree?
[btw, we do not provide insect control advice on this site, as a matter of policy]

Pest Control
There are about 20 in one "purple chaste" tree. We have never seen them before yesterday when suddenly they were appearing all over.
I understand about the pest control advice issue, I was just wondering if they would damage any of my plants and it sounds like this will not be a problem anyway.

about 20 is okay...
they'll eat a bit of greenery, but do no harm. it's a native species, so may be they've had a nice year and are now more visible than usual :]
their larvae parasitize grasshopper eggs.
