An Ant to ID -
Camponotus

Looks like a red ant but my guide shows it with a red head also. Any help would be appreciated

Carpenter ant
I'm pretty confident this is a carpenter ant, genus Camponotus. They are extremely variable in color, so to ID them to species you have to have the specimen in hand. Check out Alex Wild's site: http://www.myrmecos.net and you will see what I mean:-)
