Adult Female - Orgyia antiqua - female

Adult Female - Orgyia antiqua - Female
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
August 27, 2012
I assume this is a wingless female moth laying eggs on the outside of the pupa she recently emerged from. I found her on the back of a plastic lawn chair I had set in long grass under a willow tree.

Total number of eggs she eventually laid: 334

Resembles a Rusty Tussock female with her egg mass. The description mentions the light gray-brown coloration and short bipectinate antennae that this female seems to possess. Coincidentally, the eggs look similar, and the caterpillars would be able to feed on willow leaves if given the chance. Nice set of images, John.
