What is this bug? It's not a bee, but looks like one. - Hemaris diffinis

Size: 1.5 inch
I have never seen this insect before but it was quite striking. It was very furry and bee like.

Resembles Hemaris spp.
Perhaps the snowberry clearwing, Hemaris diffinis?
