This beetle appears to be Pachybrachis caelatus based on the keys, descriptions, and range in Fall 1915(1), the original description of LeConte, Proc. Acad. Nat. Soc. Phila., Vol. 10 (1858) p. 84(2), and the images in the Harvard MCZ type database(3). From Fall, for example, "The most important characters of this species are the widely distant eyes combined with the very large front claws of the male".

I collected this beetle by sweeping foilage in a meadow along Winsor Trl. (No. 254) at about 10,600 ft elevation in the Aspen Basin 7.5’ quadrangle, Santa Fe Nat’l Forest, Santa Fe Co., New Mexico.
