Schinia buta - Hodges#11146 - Schinia buta
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
September 3, 2012
This moth was photographed at about 4:00 p.m. in Coastal Sage Scrub at the Claremont Colleges' Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station.

Although it's perched on a buckwheat stem in the photo, the moth was originally spotted on among California Asters (Corethrogyne filaginifolia). I also earlier spotted aanother individual on California Asters but didn't get a photo. In an earlier post showing Schinia buta on California Aster, Bob Patterson commented that Chuck Harp said that this is the first note remarking on possible plant associations for the species, and I think this is looking more likely.

Identification confirmed by Bob Patterson.
