Caterpillar on Mistflower - Pareuchaetes insulata

Caterpillar on Mistflower - Pareuchaetes insulata
Georgetown (inside the city limits), Williamson County, Texas, USA
September 4, 2012
Size: 1 1/4"
Found this guy munching happily on my Gregg's Mistflower - didn't know the plant was larval food for any butterflies, and was happy to see this caterpillar!

Adult documented in adjacent county
Anne-- Here is a new image of a fresh adult Yellow-winged Pareuchaetes in CenTex to go along with your larval photo! Interestingly enough, Gregg Mistflower is planted in the butterfly garden immediately in front of the HQ for Balcones Canyonlands NWR.

The caterpillars pretty much took over my mistflower - but this was the only one of three mistflowers in the garden that they "attacked" - just yesterday I saw one of the moths in the garden and it was beautiful. It's really something, isn't it - I hated the caterpillars destroying my plant, but just love to look at that gorgeous moth - it's all a matter of balance - my plant will deal with it :) Thank you for the link to the moth.

Thanks - that does look like it, and the one in your image is also on what appears to be a type of mistflower. As pretty as it is I was hoping for a butterfly, not a moth ;)
