moth - Elophila tinealis

moth - Elophila tinealis
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
September 2, 2012
Size: ~5mm - length
I lightened the photos a bit and reposted them. I looked at the photos of Elophila tinealis on MPG after reading the note from Steve and do see the resemblance. I'll wait for further comments. The moth looked completely black under the lights I used for attracting moths.

Elophila sp.
Looks like an Elophila sp. possibly E. tinealis. You might want to wait to see if anyone else weighs in on it.

Not an expert but...
...I see these regularly and, yes, have always called them tinealis.

moth
There's also a moth called Synclita tinealis which has some resemblance. . This all gets a bit confusing since the link on MPG from the Elophia tinealis page links back to BG on the Synclita tinealis page.

Same Species
The genus is now Elophila. See reference here. BugGuide just hasn't made the change yet. I'll take care of it.

Thanks for clearing that up.
