European Corn Borer Damage - SK - Ostrinia nubilalis

European Corn Borer Damage - SK - Ostrinia nubilalis
Downtown at the Farmer's Market, Saskatoon and Area, Saskatchewan, Canada
September 8, 2012
I chose this picture mostly to showcase some of the damage these caterpillars orchestrate in their daily lives, rendering the corn unsalable to most interested customers.

These caterpillars were less numerous this week at the farmer's market, though they can be found destroying many ears of corn and are a concern of some market gardeners. The corn is grown (the caterpillars thrive)and then brought into Saskatoon from a farm bout 15 miles north of town in the Aberdeen,SK district.
