) probably is the best match. I have a specimen of it that was collected in Illinois on 8 September, so both the geography and the phenology of this moth agree, and the appearance also looks to be pretty close.

thinking Choristoneura pinus
but the dark line in the wing looks like a Choristoneura fumiferana feature- neither species likely here
