Ootheca- - Mantis religiosa

Ootheca- - Mantis religiosa
Windsor, Poudre River Trail, Larimer County, Colorado, USA
September 11, 2012
Size: approx 50 mm
For all I know this is a weird Colorado mushroom or something, but the only thing I could compare it to was an ootheca. Unfortunately I'm in a wheelchair and couldn't get as close as I like. I'm going to take my good camera back to the trail tomorrow and try for a better shot. Anyone have an idea?

Maybe Mantis religiosa
.

Moved from ID Request.

Mantid ootheca
Maybe others will be able to narrow it down.

Thanks!
Awesome! They were all over the place out there. Would it hurt to relocate one to my backyard?

I can't imagine how.
I say go for it!
