Southern Dogface? - Zerene cesonia - male

Southern Dogface? - Zerene cesonia - Male
East Fork Lake State Park, Clermont County, Ohio, USA
September 9, 2012
When flying, this Sulphur displayed much more extensive black markings than the more common species of Sulphurs I am used to seeing around here.

Yes
I'm pretty sure this is a dogface. The distinctive face pattern isn't visible, but the somewhat scalloped hindwing black border is visible through the hindwing. There is also, as you mentioned, a lot more black visible through the forewing. The forewing eyespot looks rather large from the bit not covered up.
