Male brown widow? - Latrodectus geometricus

Male brown widow? - Latrodectus geometricus
Santee, San Diego County, California, USA
September 10, 2012
Size: good size spider
I know this is an overexposed crummy pic, but you can see the markings. I found this spider in my sink crawling over my dirty dishes (I'd left the back door open a while due to heat in the nights. I don't recognize it. Is it a male brown widow? Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it.

Latrodectus
I think this is likely a Brown Widow (Latrodectus geometricus), the other option is a Western Black Widow (Latrodectus hesperus). I'm not sure it's a male though, in the images of males I've come across the palps are prominent and the banding on the legs isn't so evident. It may be a young female so treat it with caution. Someone else with much more experience than me will likely give you a more definitive answer eventually.
