Mini Diver - Liodessus

Mini Diver - Liodessus
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
September 13, 2012
Size: 1-2mm
Might this beetle, not to be confused with the lovely British actress, be something in Copelatus. An eminent ID would go a long way in reassuring me that I have not wasted a lot of money on a vanity, non-income-producing MP-E lens :)

probably Liodessus noviaffinis
This looks most likely to be Liodessus noviaffinis. See my FL water beetle manual and if you still have the critter, run it through the dytiscid key. Definitely NOT a Copelatus!!!

Specimen
I saved the specimen. What I know about beetles can be summed up in one word, Bradblainequinn=v=. So, who wants the voucher? As a bonus, I also collected a couple of this diver.

Me :)
You can save it for me if you want- I'm photovouchering the aquatic beetles for the guide.

ha!
that literally had me laughing out loud!

Bidessini
Some very similar genera: http://bugguide.net/node/view/386118/bgpage
Nice shot.

Why, thank you
Under the Mighty Quinn's tutelage, I hope to get better with this monster of a lens :)
