pronotalis-dealbatus transitionals (?) - Megatibicen pronotalis - Male
Big Thickett, Liberty County, Texas, USA
August 23, 2012
Photographed on Willow, Salix sp.
East Texas
Populations from this complex in e. TX and extreme w. LA are often trasitional in appearance.
The relationship between the 2 taxa (pronotalis & dealbatus) is close; however, details are needed to clarify the nature of their relationship taxonomically and to qualify populations possessing intermediate traits.

Specimens from east TX are usually characterized with more pruinosity than seen in most pronotalis populations & broader heads than typically seen in dealbatus (often intermediate between pronotalis & dealbatus).
