Spiderman Wasp - Tachypompilus ferrugineus

Spiderman Wasp - Tachypompilus ferrugineus
Fairhaven, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
September 22, 2012
I call this a spiderman wasp as it carried this spider across the sidewalk, up and across my garage door around the corner of my garage finally to the garage attic vent. It had metallic blue wings but the body looks reddish brown unlike the spider wasps on the beach that bury their spiders. In fact this wasp did what I would call significant planning to determine how it planned to get it where it wanted to. It had not trouble hanging onto all surfaces including glass. It did seem to tire out and take brief rests. It took it over two hours for it to get it up there.
