possible Sphecid wasp? - Polistes metricus - Male
Middle Patuxent Environmental Area, Howard County, Maryland, USA
September 23, 2012
This wasp was visiting these yellow flowers along with a carpenter bee. These flowers were growing in an open area surrounded by mostly deciduous forest.

Maybe Polistes metricus? This looks to my beginner eyes to be the closest visual match among the Polistes.



There is a previous Sept. Maryland record of that one.
