Dung roller - Geotrupes opacus

Dung roller - Geotrupes opacus
Seminole, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA
September 23, 2012
Found on an equestrian trail rolling a ball of dung.

Moved
Moved from Geotrupes.

Geotrupes opacus.
Geotrupes opacus.

wow. do they roll balls??
i grew up thinking they dig burrows right under the food pile and supply it from above...

Moved from Dung Beetles.

This one was, yes!
The others I observed on the trail were just hanging out in, under and around the horse dung. But this one was actually rolling a ball a little larger than a quarter around.

Geotrupes actually (family Geotrupidae)
I don't have the time right now to narrow down the species. I can try and get to it later if someone else does not.

Probably, its Geotrupes opacu
