By holding the mine up against the light the larva is visible in outline. I bagged one of the leaves on the tree which had one of these mines. Curious to see how that works.

Do you still have this leaf?
Even if the larva died, if you open the leaf and get a photo of it, we'll have a better idea of what it is.

no leaf
I didn't keep this leaf although I had it bagged for several weeks after finding it hoping that a larva would perhaps pupate. I have another photo of a mine and larva from this oak but I'm not sure if it is the same kind. I'll post the photos.
