Harpalus actiosus Casey
is best fit based on my microscopic examination of this female specimen which is now a photo-voucher in the P.W.Messer collection. Thanks Mike.

Charactersitic combination: Elytra densely & uniformly punctate + anterior pronotal border slightly angularly emarginate (difficult to see in photo) + large size (ABL ~ 16 mm) + Texas location. This combination rules out the two most similar species: H. protractus and H. vagans (formerly H. longicollis).
