A glow worm!!!!!
Really? I didn't see an elytra on it so I figured it was not a beetle, but I guess those strange-looking epaulette things are the abbreviated elytra. A glow-worm, that is seriously cool. And yes, it came to a black light so it's probably a male. I'll amend the record with the correct date when I can check my records. Thanks.

 
sure, the elytra are typical for this genus
females are worm-like
in other genera of this family, male elytra may be even more reduced.
a good sample of short-winged beetles from across the order can be seen here --it's not an unusual condition
