Mystery Bug - Megarhyssa greenei - female

Mystery Bug - Megarhyssa greenei - Female
Pointe-Du-Chene, New Brunswick, Canada
August 19, 2012
Size: 2 cm??
This guy/girl was found in a pool, I kept him/her because it is such an extravagant insect. I haven't the faintest idea what it is, it looks closely related to a wasp, but, obviously, isn't.

Moved from ID Request.

Oh, but it is a wasp :)
It's one of the giant ichneumons in the genus Megarhyssa. Others will tell you which one.

And since I neglected to say it before, welcome to BugGuide!

:)
Thank you for the warm welcome, I appreciate it, immensely! I am very glad this site exists, I am always finding new discoveries, (new to me, they are not new to an expert) but I have so much trouble trying to find the identifications on the interWEB, snicker. So, in short, Hahaha, thank you for helping me!
