I'm pretty sure this is Speyeria egleis mattooni
This subspecies was described in 1998, and is barely distinguishable from
S. egleis oweni
from the Mt. Shasta area (and which was named in 1892).
Without seeing the underside, there is always a chance that this is incorrect, but it seems by far the best fit. There are images on the Butterflies of America web site
here
and
here

a male Fritillary, genus Speyeria
Telling the species apart without seeing both sides is difficult, and tentative. I will come back to it and make an "educated guess", but without seeing the underside too (do you have a photo?), it will probably not be certain (unless there is something distinct about it that I'm not seeing yet).

Top only
I have three shots of the top of this one. That's all.
