probably G. wrightii
I've done some further reading. G. missouriensis builds a turret of vegetation around its burrow and is found in close association with vegetation. This individual was in a large patch of bare sand and other holes in the general area were all without turrets.

black ventrally
wrighti has a black underside. should you happen across these spiders again, check and post ventral pics if possible.

G. wrightii
I just took another look at the pictures. If you take a look at the second photo you can see black at the sides of the front end of the abdomen.
I found this description of G wrighti "At the sides of the abdomen in front the black edges of the ventral black spot extend far enough to be seen from above." Emerton, J.H., 1912. Four burrowing Lycosa (Geolycosa Montg. Scaptocosa Banks) including one new species. Psyche XIX, 2: 25-35 + Plate #4.
I think that should clinch it.

Does look right based on what I can see with the shape of the carapace. I'm away from my references right now so I'll have to look at this again next week.
